San Antonio, such a great city to live and getting easier to eat vegan and veggie food. Below, you will see some of the restaurants that are vegan, vegetarian, and vegan / veggie friendly. Hope you enjoy!

Sichuan House – Chinese Restaurant

Chris (co-owner of Green) told us about Sichuan House. He especially recommended their Spicy Garlic Eggplant and thought their other veggie dishes were tasty and authentic. Since discovering Thai food, Chinese food has seemed bland, too Americanized, and boring to us. It took a couple of weeks before we made our first visit to Sichuan House, and oh, what a great experience!
We happened to be really hungry, so we ordered two dishes: Spicy Garlic Eggplant and Dry Sautéed Green Beans. What a treat! Good-sized proportions, beautiful presentation, unique flavor, and much simpler and fresher than any San Antonio Chinese restaurant cuisine that we’ve tried. Our server was friendly and answered our questions beforehand so we understood what we were ordering.
It only took 2 days before we ventured back and tried Fire-Sautéed Wild Mushrooms, which complemented those Dry Sautéed Green Beans we fell in love with on the first visit. We’ll have to eat through all the vegetarian options on the menu. Oh, we also got to sample the Five-Spiced Tofu (tofu & bamboo shoots). DELICIOUS!
They have 7 vegetarian main dishes:
- Ma Po Tofu
- Sichuan House Tofu
- Dry Sautéed Green Beans
- Spicy Garlic Eggplant
- Fire-Sautéed Wild Mushrooms
- Potatoes with Bell Peppers
- Seasonal Vegetables
Biryani Pot – Indian
Biryani Pot – Authentic Hyderabadi (southern Indian) style restaurant chain

We had Aloo-Gobi Masala – Potato and cauliflower stewed with cumin, ginger and tomato. It was hot, damn hot, and bursting with flavor. We ordered extra rice to offset the heat and that one entree was enough for both of us. They offer four vegan entrees and most appetizers are vegan. Our server was aware that we were vegan and did not put butter on Naan. Many vegetarian entrees.
Good seating, clean, friendly staff, authentic. The only thing I didn’t like was the atmosphere. We felt like we were on stage. Overhead lighting was as bright as an operating room. I would go back for takeout only. Dining room lighting was too much.

Earth Burger
Ate at Earth Burger tonight. Susan had their Fish-less Sandwich (delish), I had the Barbeque Sandwich.
The Fish-less Sandwich was great as always, along with the rest of the menu.
The BBQ Sandwich, not so good. Too strong, too intense, too salty for me. After half a sandwich, first time I was wishing I’d ordered something else.
Everything on the menu is vegan. They offer vegan cheese and animal-based cheese.
I love this place, great concept, great fast food, nice atmosphere, friendly staff. Will keep going back.
